Total & Permanent Disability

TPD claims — for people the system has worn down.

If illness or injury has stopped you returning to the work you used to do, you may have a Total & Permanent Disability benefit waiting in your superannuation or insurance policy. We help you claim it.

What is a TPD claim?

Most Australians have TPD insurance bundled inside their superannuation, often without realising. The benefit is designed to pay a lump sum when illness or injury permanently prevents you from working in your usual occupation — or sometimes, depending on the policy, any occupation suited to your education, training and experience.

The definitions matter. So does the medical evidence. So does the way the claim is presented to the insurer.

Why these claims are hard to win on your own

TPD claims are designed to be slow and document-heavy. Insurers ask for years of medical records, employment records, tax returns and treating practitioner reports. They run their own independent medical examinations. They look for inconsistencies. Many people give up partway through, which is exactly what the process is built to encourage.

We've run many of these claims. We know what the insurer is looking for, where they tend to push back, and how to put your evidence together so it's hard to refuse.

What we do

  • Identify all TPD policies you may be entitled to claim under, including multiple super funds.
  • Read the policy and the definitions carefully — "any occupation" cover and "own occupation" cover are very different.
  • Brief and coordinate treating doctors and independent specialists so your medical evidence is consistent and complete.
  • Handle the insurer's correspondence, requests for information and examinations.
  • Challenge an unfair decline through internal review, AFCA, or litigation if needed.

Fees

We act on TPD matters on a No Win, No Fee basis in appropriate cases. We'll tell you upfront what that means for your matter before you commit to anything.

Your claim is worth a second look.
